A Margarida

Open for more than two decades, this traditional restaurant makes mouth-watering food. The service is old-school, attentive and thoughtful, there are crisply ironed tablecloths and family photos, fine china and Arraiolos carpets decorating the stone walls.

Leading the troops is Margarida Silva, the cook, who fills the tables with shrimp açorda (bread pudding) served in bread toasted in the oven, one of the restaurant’s delicacies. There are also pots of seafood or ‘blood’ rice, hake fillets or codfish, beef cataplana, steaks and lots of shellfish by the kilo.

To finish, order a slice of almond pie or Abade de Priscos egg pudding, one of the house mousses, orange cake or French toast.
